Technician Apprenticeship

              Programme

             Starting 2008

  

 


A major new Initiatiative is in starting September 2008.  This collaborative venture between the South Eastern Regional College (SERC)* and the Polymer Processing Research Centre (PPRC) at Queen's University Belfast will enable school leavers and current employees to become Process Technicians within the polymer industry.

 

From injection moulding to vacuum forming, the Polymer Apprenticeship Programme will provide the necessary training to prepare you for the broad range of careers across the many types of companies making up the polymer industry. The programme has been designed in cooperation with the Northern Ireland polymer Association and with Cogent, the Sector Skills
Council for the UK polymer industry.


Entry Requirements
School Leavers - 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English and Maths Current Employees - Experience of operating at Setter/Technician level (previous qualifications may exempt you from undertaking the NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) element of the programme)


The Development Programme comprises:

Year 1 - NVQ Level 2 Polymer Processing with your employer.
Year I & 2 - BTEC National Certificate at SERC, Bangor Campus & PPRC, Queen's University Belfast.

Year 2 & 3 - NVQ Level 3 Polymer Processing with your employer

First Year Attendance
Day 1 at SERC or PPRC for BTEC National Certificate
Remainder of week with your employer for NVQ Level 2 Polymer Processing

Second Year Attendance
Day 1 at SERC or PPRC for BTEC National Certificate
Remainder of week with your employer for NVQ Level 3 Polymer
